How to convert a VOB file to MP4

  1. 01

    Open a VOB file

Copy the VOB files from the DVD's VIDEO_TS folder and drop one in.

  2. 02

    Keep MP4 selected

It's already chosen. The picture gets its real 16:9 or 4:3 shape automatically.

  3. 03

    Convert and download

You get an H.264 MP4 with AAC sound.

Why use Cutlia for this

The right shape

DVDs store 720 pixels across whatever the shape; the MP4 gets the real 16:9 or 4:3 frame.

Interlacing removed

DVD video is usually interlaced; it's deinterlaced so motion looks clean on computers and phones.

Dolby Digital to AAC

AC-3 and MP2 sound becomes stereo AAC, in sync with the picture.

Frequently asked questions

Which VOB file should I convert?

A DVD splits each title into VOB files of up to 1 GB (VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB…); VIDEO_TS.VOB is usually just the menu. Convert them one by one — or open them all in Merge Videos to join them into one MP4.

Does it work with movie DVDs I bought?

No. Commercial DVDs are copy-protected, and their VOB files can't be converted. Your own recordings and home-made DVDs work.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Cutlia processes your video directly in your browser using WebAssembly and your device's hardware. The file never leaves your computer or phone, so it stays completely private.
