How to convert MKV to MP4

  1. 01

    Open your MKV file

Drop the MKV — a film, a recording or any other video.

  2. 02

    Keep MP4 selected

It's already chosen. Pick a part or a smaller size if you like.

  3. 03

    Convert and download

H.264 and HEVC pictures are copied, so even a long film is ready in moments.

Why use Cutlia for this

Remuxed in seconds

Most MKVs hold H.264 or HEVC: the picture goes into the MP4 untouched, so nothing is re-encoded.

Cinema sound converted

AC-3, DTS and other sound that MP4 players don't take becomes stereo AAC.

Older MKVs too

MKVs with MPEG-4 Part 2 or MPEG-2 video are converted to H.264.

Frequently asked questions

Is MKV to MP4 lossless?

The picture usually is: H.264 and HEVC are copied as they are. Sound is copied when it's AAC or MP3; AC-3, DTS and others are converted to AAC.

What happens to subtitles and other audio tracks?

The MP4 gets the video and the main audio track — the one marked as default. Subtitle tracks and extra languages aren't carried over.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Cutlia processes your video directly in your browser using WebAssembly and your device's hardware. The file never leaves your computer or phone, so it stays completely private.

Is it really free?

Yes. Cutlia is free to use with no account, no trial and no watermark on your export. The site is paid for by the ads on it, and your files never leave your device.
