How to compress a video for email

  1. 01

    Open your video

The one your email said was too large. It opens right in your browser and is never uploaded.

  2. 02

Email · 25 MB is set

Your video will come out under 18 MB. For a smaller limit, choose Custom size and type about 70 % of it.

  3. 03

    Download and attach

Attach the MP4 to your email as usual — no cloud link, nothing for the recipient to sign in to.

Why use Cutlia for this

Room for the encoding

Email sends attachments as text, about a third bigger than the file. An 18 MB video comes to about 24 MB on the way — inside 25 MB.

An attachment, not a link

Over 25 MB, Gmail swaps the file for a Google Drive link. Under it, your video arrives inside the email itself.

Opens on any device

An MP4 with H.264 picture and AAC sound plays on any phone, tablet or computer the recipient has.

As sharp as the size allows

The bitrate comes from your video's length, and the resolution goes down only when it has to. Trim it to the part that matters to keep it sharper.

Frequently asked questions

How big a video can I send by email?

Gmail allows 25 MB of attachments per email; Outlook.com 20 MB for the whole email. Because attachments grow by about a third when sent, a video of about 18 MB is the most that safely fits 25 MB — which is what this page makes. For Outlook.com, choose Custom size and type 14.

How long a video can I email?

From a 1080p video: half a minute stays at 1080p, a minute comes out at 720p, three minutes at 480p and five at 360p. For anything longer, trim it to the part that matters — the editor shows the size and resolution before you start.

Can I send several videos in one email?

The limit counts all the attachments together. Compress each one with Custom size so they add up to 18 MB — two videos at 9 MB each fit where one at 18 MB would.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. Cutlia processes your video directly in your browser using WebAssembly and your device's hardware. The file never leaves your computer or phone, so it stays completely private.
